George.

This work seeks to honour and reflect the lived experience of one individual navigating visual impairment. I was introduced to George through the charity Sight Support and spent three months speaking with him and following his journey through sight loss.

A common misconception about blindness is that it inherently limits ability for that individual to live independently or lead a 'normal' life. Public narrative often centre on themes of loss and limitation. However, in my conversations with George and others, what emerged instead was a narrative of resilience, ambition and an unwavering determination to pursue personal goals. Sight loss does not diminish a person's intelligence, character or individuality - if anything, it often sharpens their sense of self and deepens their inner strength.

Spending time with George and stepping into his world has enabled me to see life from his unique perspective. The personal conversations we've shared have given me a more profound understanding of him as an individual - not defined by his disability, but by his insight, humour and spirit.
